Open for Reviews

After much thought, I’ve decided that I would very much like to begin pursuing becoming a more active reviewer in the writing community. Also, I enjoy being an active part of the writing/creative community, and hope that in some small way this will bolster and support it. In particular, I would like to focus on books being written and distributed by small presses and independent authors, in the realms of speculative/genre fiction. I won’t rule anything out, though I am more immediately interested in works of fantasy that lean towards the strange and adventurous, as well as works that smash genres together and blow through traditional genre walls. Space horror, is a fantastic example of this. As well as books set in the “weird west.”

It is my intent to not only review but examine books, and I will be turning the same eye on the covers that accompany them. Covers are an integral piece of the puzzle, and in many ways are the literal face of the book they represent. Also, I am a graphic designer and cover artist, and I don’t see a lot of people actively talking about or reviewing covers. So that’s something I hope to remedy. As well, I will be seeking to interview the authors of the books I review, and needle them with questions beyond, “So, what do you like about writing and why did you write this?” I want to find motivations, and discover the person behind the story. The reviews themselves will of course be posted to my site, and shared as broadly across various social media platforms as I’m able, as well as cross-posted to Amazon and Goodreads, to ensure peak visibility.

That being said, I do dearly and greatly hope this becomes a very good thing. If you or someone you know would be interested in having their book reviewed, please feel free to contact me via this site and I’ll do my best to get in touch as soon as I’m able. If you have a book you’d like to recommend, you can get a hold of me the same way. While I cannot guarantee I’ll get to everything, I will definitely consider every suggestion.

I look forward to sharing lots of stories with you.

Be kind to yourselves, be kind to each other.

Stay tuned.

M.
