When we were wolves

When we were wolves

we hunted the night

and our teeth flashed brighter

and sharper than the moon

When we were wolves

our songs were powerful

and beautiful

and terrible

When we were wolves

the night was full

of glory and blood

and we were strong

We are no longer wolves

our teeth are blunted

and our legs are weak

the moon hides its face from us

We are no longer wolves

and we sing only to ghosts

for our voices are gone

and our songs are silent

We are no longer wolves

We are no longer wolves
